MAST
is a manufacturer of microbacteria testing equipment, culture media
and supplements for VETERINARY, CLINICAL MICROBIOLOGY, FOOD MICROBIOLOGY,
BLOOD BANKING, CLINICAL CHEMISTRY, CELL BIOLOGY, NEONATOLOGY, VIROLOGY,
PHARMACEUTICAL, IMMUNOLOGY, etc.

|
| Mast has
been involved with microbiology instrumentation since
1983 when the first Mastascan was launched. This system
was the world's first image analyser for use in hospital
microbiology laboratories and allowed automatic reading
and reporting of agar dilution breakpoint results. There
has been continuous development of the Mastascan since
the first version and our latest instrument, mastascanelite,
benefits from the enormous experience and expertise gathered
since 1983.
The mastascanelite consists of a technologically
advanced reading module that incorporates a patented
specimen illumination system to enhance poorly growing
organisms, making specimens that were previously unreadable,
highly visible. A motorised drawer mechanism allows
a variety of different plate sizes to be accommodated,
to include 9cm, 10cm and 15cm round, 12cm square and
microtitre plates. A visibility enhancement background
is also provided to further improve the reading capabilities.
The advanced illumination system allows a wide variety
of different media with and without blood or chocolate
to be read with ease.
The reading module is connected to a high quality PC
that contains the image analysis hardware and may be
interfaced to a laboratory computer system.
Hardware options include bar-code reading and electronic
callipers.
MULTI-FUNCTIONALITY
From listening to our customers, we have, and continue
to add, new functionality and features. From the first
instrument, that was only able to read multipoint agar
dilution plates, the new mastascanelite
is capable of analysing not only agar dilution plates
for antibiotic breakpoints, but also has the ability
to perform :
- Disc diffusion antibiotic susceptibility.
- Bacterial identification.
- MIC (by agar dilution or disc diffusion).
- Urine screening.
- Expert analysis.
- Epidemiology.
- Quality control.

| Disc diffusion
is still the most popular method for determining bacterial
susceptibility to antibiotics, as highlighted by the variety
of international standardised procedures eg. NCCLS (USA),
BSAC (UK), AFFSAPS (France) & DIN (Germany).
MASTDISCS are available as an extensive range
of antibiotic discs presented in vials, or plastic dispensing
cartridges. Manufactured on standard 300gsm paper, and
QC tested in accordance with the accepted limits required
for the various national controls, MASTDISCSa are suitable
for use in laboratories worldwide.
- Extensive range available from stock to suit all
popular needs.
- lFlexible, personalised service manufacturing discs
to customer specification, with low minimum order
quantity.
- All discs are strictly quality controlled for antimicrobial
potency and bath uniformity.
- Discs are available to suit NCCLS, BSAC and other
standard recommendations.
- Zones of inhibition can be read by eye, manually
using calipers, or automatically by the mastascanelitea
(See instrumentation section).

MAST ADATAB is a lyophilised tablet for the convenient
preparation of antibiotic containing plates used in
breakpoint or MIC (minimum inhibitory concentration)
testing.
The ADATAB system is centred around the convenience,
speed and economy of multipoint technology, where numerous
isolates can be simultaneously inoculated onto test
plates using MAST Multipoint Inoculators.
(See Instrumentation section).
- Reproducible, accurate and easy to interpret.
- Highly suited to economical multipoint inoculation.
- Control organisms can be included on the same plate
for enhanced confidence.
- 2 year shelf life for most antibiotics.
- No weighing or dilution required.
- Can be readily combined with the MAST-IDa system
for identification of Enterobacteriaceae.
(See Identification & Detection section).
Each ADATAB tablet contains a measured dose of
antibiotic designed to effect a specific breakpoint
concentration in 100ml of medium.

| As a
specialist microbiology company, MAST has an extensive
range of Dehydrated Culture Media and selective supplements
for the culture, examination, selection, isolation and
transport of clinically significant organisms from patient
specimens.
In addition, media are also available for the food,
industrial and research markets.
- Extensive range of culture media.
- Separate range of raw materials - agars, peptones,
bile salts.
- Available as complete pre-formulated mixes or medium
base plus supplement.
- Pack sizes to suit all throughput requirements.
- Can be supplemented with Selectataba or Selectaviala
for selective isolation or enrichment.
- Custom requirements easily accommodated.

MAST offers an entensive and expanding range of simple
to use disc tests for the presumptive identification
of organisms or specific groups of organisms. DIscs
are impregnated with chemicals ot antibiotics, and designed
to demonstrate obvious color changes, growth inhibition
or growth promotion.
Discs are available either in vials, ot in convenient
cartidges.
